Gianni Bugno!
 


Gianni Bugno (Brugg, February 14, 1964) is a former road cyclist and Italian sports manager. Professional from 1985 to 1998, was world champion on the road in 1991 and 1992. In the great revolutions of nine stage wins in the Tour of Italy, and the ultimate success in 1990, four stages in the Tour de France and two in the Vuelta a España. Between 1990 and 1991 was number one on the UCI world rankings.

CarrieraNato in Switzerland, but always based in Monza, became professional in 1985, achieving 72 victories in his career.

In 1990 he won the Tour of Italy, wearing the pink jersey from first to last stage, as they had been able to do before him only constant Girardengo, Alfredo Binda and Eddy Merckx. In the same year he won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Utsunomiya, while the next two years was World Champion. In 1990 he was awarded the victory of Milan-San Remo and the Wincanton Classic, winning the final standings of the World Cup. Cup also won the Clásica de San Sebastián in 1991 (with 30 km of solo flight) and the Tour of Flanders in 1994 (beating Johan Museeuw photo finish).

He failed however to win his race ever "home", the Giro di Lombardia. We still came second in 1988 behind Charly Mottet and sixth in 1996. Moreover, he came second in the 1988 Ghent-Wevelgem, nell'Amstel Gold Race in 1993 and Liege-Bastogne-Liege and in the Championship of Zurich in 1995.

At the Tour de France won second place overall in 1991 behind Miguel Indurain, and third in 1992, preceded by Indurain and Claudio Chiappucci. Also won two consecutive years (1990-1991), the stage of Alpe d'Huez.

In Italy scored two wins on the road in the Italian championship (1991 and 1995 Giro del Friuli Trofeo Matteotti), three consecutive tours of the Apennines (1986-1988), two Coppa Agostoni (1988 and 1995), a Giro del Piemonte (1986), a Three Valleys Varese (1989), a Giro dell'Emilia (1992), a Milan-Turin (1992), Giro del Lazio (1992). Twice he finished second at the Italian Championship of Road Cycling, beaten in 1989 by Moreno Argentin and photo finish in 1995 for separation from Massimo Podenzana.

In August 1994 he was found positive for caffeine in a dope test and was banned for three months. He retired from professional cycling world in 1998. In the 2000s he devoted himself to flight, a helicopter pilot and helicopter pilot shooting the Tour of Italy since 2008.

On 12 April 2006 he was awarded the Golden Apennines by the U.S. Pontedecimo Section Cycling for winning three times in succession, the Tour of the Apennines (1986, 1987 and 1988), in addition to finishing second in 1989 and 1991.
